My mother told me that I cannot wear shoes with heels over an inch high while pregnant?

But I keep seeing pictures of maternity models wearing up to 4 and 5 inch high heels while heavily pregnant, I am now confused! I am only 13 weeks pregnant and its my birthday in 4 weeks, can I wear heels on my birthday?

My mother told me that I cannot wear shoes with heels over an inch high while pregnant?
Yes, wear them! Your centre of gravity wont be off yet anyway, but even when it is, if you're used to wearing heels you'll be fine. I'm not often out of them (unless in my New Rocks) and even when pregnant (I'm 37 weeks with my second) I still wear killer heels 4-5inches high. I do find that by this stage boots are more comfortable though, probably because they support the ankle more - I wear lace up ones and do them extra tight at the ankle.
Reply:if you're an adult who's pregnant, why is your mother telling you what to do?
Reply:Its only dangerous because you can easily trip. So be careful if you do wear them.
Reply:Yes, but not too high heels.
Reply:The reason for no heels, or shorter heels while pregnant is because your center of gravity shifts while pregnant. It gives you a higher risk of falling actaully, plus later on, wearing tighter shoes hurts your feet. Comfy shoes are best!!
Reply:yes that was always said it puts a strain on your back
Reply:There is no reason why you can't wear heals when you're pregnant. It's not advisable though. You are more unsteady when in heels, and as you grow bigger, your posture will change and they could cause you to ache. Your mam probably doesn't want you to suffer.
Reply:hun, you can wear what you please
Reply:well tell that to jennifer lopez because she wore 5 inch heels to her baby shower!! actually if you are wearing heels it is recommended that you not wear less than 1 inch ones, something about strain on your back. but i definitely wouldn't go for 3 or 4 inch heels. really, if you are comfortable wearing them then go for it, you are early in and shouldn't have any issues. later in pregnancy may be a different story, it seems like balance and swelling would come into play. good luck! happy early birthday.
Reply:Just be careful, it is more dangerous when you are further along..because you tend to be off balance.
Reply:Twaddle!! Wear what you like.
Reply:I think it's good to remember if those models are really pregnant instead of just wearing a prosthetic that makes them look that way for the picture it's still good to remember they are probably only wearing them for the pictures and the camera shoot.

Overall i have been advised also by my doctor when i was pregnant you should avoid high heels unless only an inch high. It could cause a bad fall that could put the baby in jeapordy and i'm sure you want the baby to be as full term and healthy as possible. If you want to wear heels for a special occasion, i would wear only 1 or 1/2 inch heels that are not narrow at all, but only square sturdy heel shoes that would be safer to wear but i would say, don't do so as a general practice since it would be also hard on your feet and ankles during pregnancy and could cause swelling that you wouldn't normally see.

That is my advice.
Reply:yes you can wear heels. the only reason they say dont wear heels is because it can cause backache. there is no medical reason you cannot wear heels. so you will be fine. i wear them every now and then. it will do no harm. but if you wear heels all the time it can cause backache because of the angle.
Reply:What? It really depends on the person, but it is really up to you. It has no impact on your pregnancy other than soar feet if your heels are too high.
Reply:High heels arent going to help when it comes to carrying a large bump around - they dont give support and your centre of gravity isnt right, plus they are just not good for your back anyway. But thats only if you wear them non stop all the time. Once wont hurt.
Reply:It is because if you tripped and fell your mother is giving you good advice you can wear a nice pair of low shoes with a trousers and be safe and good luck with your pregnancy .
Reply:can you think of an answer for this daft question? sorry dont mean to be rude just showing you that this is silly, especially when your only 13 weeks! go out and wear the biggest heels ever, enjoy ur birthday!
Reply:It can be a bit risky wearing high heels during pregnancy...due to your centre of gravity shifting your balance is off, there's a risk of tripping and extra pressure put onto the calves due to high heels can lead to varicouse veins!

I'm 27 weeks am still being a bit naughty...I'm wearing my heels...but I'm only 5'2 so I'm tiny in flats!! I'd say as long as you feel comfortable and you're careful...why not!
Reply:just be careful wearing them, i wore them its fine, but i didnt wear them when i had a big bump an the baby was bigger! too uncomfortable

all the best x
Reply:my mom told me the same thing!!!! i am 21 weeks pregnant and i did wear 4 inch heels to a party!!! it wouldn't hurt to wear heels on your birthday!!!
Reply:the only reason they say you shouldnt wear heels while pregnant is because you center of gravity is already altered from the weight around your abdomen, thus making you a little more clumsy than usual.. heels just add to the risk of falling.. i think you should be ok as long as you are careful
Reply:I think your mom is just being protective just in case you might fall or something.
Reply:Think about your tiny baby three times before you take any decision...
Reply:yes you can, it actually helped me feel more balanced , but towards the end i stopped my feet got too swollen. but i loved wearing heels while pregnant just be careful to not fall.
Reply:Your center of balance changes when you are pregnant and you are not only more at risk of injury from falling, but also damaging your feet and ankles. Your mom is correct. Don't use models, who have unhealthy lifestyles in the first place, as your examples of proper living. However, if you are only 13 weeks pregnant, wear your 2.5 inch heels, if you want.
Reply:Thats a new one to me... Sounds like an old wives tail...

If you doc didn't tell you not to wear heels, then i wouldn't pay attention to your mother.

Yes you could twist your ankle but there is no more risk than usual.
Reply:I think u are aloud to wear the ones that are like 1-2 inches tall. thats what I remember my Dr telling me,....besides u are not even that far along, so why worry?
Reply:It's dangerous because with pregnancy comes a (sometimes) drastic change in your equilibrium. Not to mention a change in foot size and how easily they swell.

You're probably OK to wear a chunky heel but don't overdo it. You might regret it later- if you fall or if your feet hurt for days after
Reply:Yes - but be careful - your center of gravity shifts with the weight and you may fall. Or it can hurt your back.
Reply:I did, with all three of my babies.

My job requires me to be fairly dressy, so I wore them. Only thing was- they were very uncomfortable since my feet were swollen, and by the end, it was so bad I wore flats.

Since your thirteen weeks, in four you will be seventeen, right? That seems fine to me... get your heels on!
